If ever you see a gig at the hollywood bowl...
i) be punctual. Forget about all of the times you had to wait in line for hours for the doors to open and then sit and wait through bands you've never heard of [sometimes the best part] before the bands you are there to see enter stage. If the shins are scheduled to play at 7:30, they will begin AT 7:30 and it will probably be the first show you've ever been late to because you did not leave at 3 in the afternoon. LA traffic is always going to suck and when you do finally get there parking will suck too.
ii) Bring lots and lots of snacks, preferably in a trendy, cute picnic basket complete with a fancy cheese platter. Don't forget the wine and the beer or the bottle of vodka or the pot. Otherwise, you will be the only one there with contact munchies and nothing to munch and the only one who cares to actually hear the music of belle and sebastian instead of the sound of your own voice.
But in the end, it really will not matter so much because on the way there you can people-watch from the back seat while someone else has to stress about traffic on the freeway. You will still get to hear at least a portion of a brilliant show and due to the noise ordinance in hollywood hills there will be ample time to find your way to a jewish deli in hollywood to order a meal you swear is going to keep you vomitting all night long and eat all of the free pickles you want.
Let's do it again sometime! This time early. With snacks. And then you can tell me why everyone in LA is beautiful.
