quartZa

It may have been the most points anyone has every scored by playing scrabble. Okay, not really, but it was in my world. I was up around 30 points with the letter A remaining in front of me. He still had 6 letters and each time he played it took him about ten minutes to decide. This led me to believe I had this game. I do not have that big of an ego about such things it just seemed like the obvious direction this game was headed. After much patience on my end for him to make a play, he puts down every single letter he has left. QUA_TZ. That is fine except for the fact that the Z is by an A and I was pretty sure ZA was not a word. Naturally, I challenge this move and consult the dictionary. Unfortunately, "za" is a word that is slang for "pizza" because in 1965 someone decided to be lazy and drop the first three letters. Really? It doesn't even roll off the tongue.

What do you want for dinner?

Let's order some za.

The Z was on a triple letter AND part of both words and the Q was on a triple word. I think the final tally was close to 200 just for that play. Needless to say, I got creamed. But it was worth it to see him dance like a fool around the living room.
