My car full of material things, my life, moved into the guest bedroom of their home. Many things were thrown errantly into bags and now I was in the process of organizing. Making piles. Jeremy decided to lend a hand and together we shuffled items and stuffed bags, listening to This American Life from my computer. The subject became gay marriage and I was not sure it was mother-approved material so I quickly advanced to the next episode. Abortion. I turned it off completely when Jeremy asked, "do you have music on there?" I said "yes, but I am not sure I have anything you would enjoy."
"Do you have the Postal Service?"
"Uh, yes."
" Can we listen to that? I love the Postal Service!"
Thoroughly confused, I obliged.
"My favorite is 'such great heights'."
Then began our marathon of Postal Service. First on the computer. Then on the iPod with the splitter. When we finished our cleaning we lay on our back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, listening. Joanne came by and cracked up, calling us teenagers.
